MicroGIS was created in January 1996 in Yverdon-les-Bains (Switzerland) by four geographers whose idea was to make the contributions of spatial analysis and cartographic representation available to economic activities.

- 1998: Partnership with the Swiss newspaper Le Temps, electoral cartography
- 1999: transformation of MicroGIS into a public limited company
- 2000: Partnership with Swiss newspaper Der Bund, electoral cartography
- 2001: Beginning of webmapping activities
- 2004: Beginning of spatial planning activities
- 2006: Opening of the office in Zürich
- 2007: beginning of activities in cultural anthropology and spatial genetics
- 2008: Partnership with the Swiss Post on the offer of ZipCodes+ geodata.
