MicroGIS was created in January 1996 in Yverdon-les-Bains (Switzerland) by four geographers whose idea was to make the contributions of spatial analysis and cartographic representation available to economic activities.

• 1996:  creation of MicroGIS Sàrl in Yverdon-les-Bains
• 1996: Partnership with the Federal Statistical Office, resale of spatialized statistical data
• 1998: Partnership with the Swiss newspaper Le Temps, electoral cartography
• 1999: transformation of MicroGIS into a public limited company
• 2000: Partnership with Swiss newspaper Der Bund, electoral cartography
• 2001: Beginning of webmapping activities
• 2004: Beginning of spatial planning activities
• 2006: Opening of the office in Zürich
• 2007: beginning of activities in cultural anthropology and spatial genetics
• 2008: Partnership with the Swiss Post on the offer of ZipCodes⁺ geodata.
